Two things that I love have come to unite as one: Opening Ceremony and Chloe Sevigny. Opening Ceremony is an exclusive New York/Los Angeles boutique specializing in all that is quirky and strange. And yeah, yeah, I know Chloe receives tons of criticism for her whacked out style but I personally love it. She owns it and look at her now launching her own line for a crazy cool label.
Her line consists of 40 pieces reminiscent of the late 80s to early 90s with minis, floral skirts and bustiers, awkward jumpsuits, shapeless dresses and button-downs, gingham prints, etc. Sevigny's inspiration for her uncanny Valley Girl theme comes from "women who are outrageous yet effortless", women such as Liz Goldwyn, Angelica Houston, Marlene Dietrich, Debbie Harry, Patti Smith, etc. Although some of these getups are way strong, I think individually these pieces could be stand-outs. They can be easily dressed with items already in one's wardrobe.
What I think is cool about this whole deal is the look book-- $65 will get you not only a look book but a look book that is fun to play with. This nifty thing includes Sevigny in all her various outfits with all the pages spliced in half so her upper and lower halves are interchangable with different outfits. Thrown into the mix are drawings and transparancies by a myriad of artists including Marika Thunder, Rita Ackerman, Benjamin Cho, Dan Colen, and Spencer Sweeney among others. All photographs taken by Matt Borthwick.
